Just Us Dance Theatre (JUDT) is a Hip Hop organisation, led by choreographer Joseph Toonga, at the forefront of connecting international dance communities. It actively supports early career artists and upskills young dancers who are generally underrepresented in the mainstream.

Committed to removing the geographic, economic and social barriers that prevent people from taking part in publicly funded activities, JUDT uniquely brings together dancers and creatives from a broad variety of backgrounds including Hip Hop, Contemporary dance and the African diaspora aiming to Inspire, Nurture and Support. JUDT founded the UK’s first Hip Hop Apprentice company in 2021.

Joseph was an Associate Artist at DanceEast and has undertaken many commissions for companies around the world, including the Boston Conservatoire, Richard Alston Dance Company and with Hofesh Shechter on the East Wall project. He has established an artist initiative in Brazil and co-founded the ‘Artists4Artists’ initiative in the UK last year. Joseph is Emerging Choreographer with The Royal Ballet for 2021-23.

Joseph is currently working on the final production in his Hip Hop dance trilogy which aims to highlight black excellence and challenge racial stigma. The first two parts of this trilogy, ‘Born to Manifest’ and ‘Born to Protest’, were presented by PDSW in Bournemouth in March 2020 and June 2021 respectively.

JUDT is Guest Company at PDSW for 2022 and will be bringing performances to, and work with, the BCP community throughout the year.
