She founded & co-curated Tocht International Dance Festival (2011-2015) as well as establishing & directing Kerry Youth Dance Theatre (2008-2014). In 2011, she established Catherine Young Dance and has been making & touring work to critical acclaim since with recent company works Ultima Thule and Woman Stood Regardless selling out their runs and her work Welcoming the Stranger opening the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine in April 2017, touring on to Jerusalem. She holds an MA in Contemporary Dance from the University of Limerick where she is also a guest lecturer/choreographer. She spent eight years training and performing in San Francisco and New York. Catherine has created work for the Dublin Dance Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival, Coisceim Dance Theatre, Shawbrook Touring Company, the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm, Féile Fáilte, Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival and the University of Limerick. She is an Arts Council of Ireland funded artist.
What will you be working on during your time at PDSW?
Having recently returned from Palestine and following her last work Welcoming the Stranger where she worked with refugees from Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Africa and beyond, Catherine will delve further into themes and stories that have arisen from these journeys in her new work Refuge to premiere in Spring 2018.
