Parkinson’s Dance

OVERVIEW

PARKINSON’S DANCE CLASSES - TAKE PART

“It really is a highpoint of my week. The main attraction is that it is a fun way of taking exercise. We learn about the importance of good posture and various tips to deal with the problems of Parkinson’s” – Sally, Bournemouth Parkinson’s Dance member

The Parkinson’s Dance class provides a creative, fun and social space where dance sparks imaginations, nurtures expression and empowers our bodies and minds to move and invent as the individuals we are, rather than the condition we have.

The class is creatively led using the Parkinson’s Dance Science* model which is based on a fusion of high quality physiotherapy and dance expertise to address the symptons of Parkinson’s. Through this the class aims to not only emphasise the artistic joy of movement in the moment, but also aspires to rehabilitate and develop functional outcomes for the dancers/participants in your everyday life.

What to expect:

We explore a variety of themes, dance styles and music to have fun, be creative and maintain our wellbeing, all designed to address the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

A team of two Parkinson’s Dance Science trained teachers will lead the class enabling multi support for you and your needs (the class can be taken seated and standing).

A safe and supported space for you to move in and an open and a friendly community to connect to.

*The Parkinson’s Dance Science model was co-founded by Neuro-physiotherapist Dr Sophia Hulbert and dance artist Aimee Hobbs with support from PDSW.
