Dancing for Dementia classes are specifically designed for people living with Dementia/memory loss and their companions. Join Neuro-Physiotherapist Dr Sophia Hulbert and dance artist Jasmine Taylor for 1.5 hours of music, movement and joy. This includes a cuppa and cake social.
“I was surprised I lost myself in the dance and the freedom of movement, space and time” –Reawakening class participant
These weekly classes take place every Friday and have been dubbed “Fun Fridays” by one of our regular participants. Classes cost £4 and carers/companions are invited to join in for free.
We welcome all abilities and levels.
What to expect?
- A beautiful purpose built studio and a friendly dance teaching team who will guide you through-out the session.
- Dancing to music and themes to spark imagination and inspire us to move in the bodies we are in that day.
- A end of class cuppa and cake social.
As part of the Arts 4 Dementia led programme Reawakening: Living well with Dementia in Dorset, PDSW delivered a 2-month dance pilot for people living with Dementia and memory loss between February and May 2017.
Since September 2017 PDSW have delivered monthly Reawakening Dance classes and became weekly from April 2018 thanks to generous funding from Dorset Community Foundation: Neighbourhood Fund.
