– How do you feel about your dance choice for Business Come Dancing?
When I was told I had been given Contemporary, I was excited and worried all in one! Looking on YouTube, I could see that it was quite an emotive and expressive style of dance which I love. On the other hand, there seemed to be a lot of lifts and quick moves that I was a bit nervous about. After having met with my dance partner Cali and learning some phrases that will eventually be knitted together to form the whole piece, I feel much more at ease with this style of dance. I love the fact that we are able to tell a story through our dance that hopefully will be engaging and has relevance to the charities we are supporting.
– What do you think will be your biggest challenge in the lead up to the event?
I think my greatest challenge will be believing in myself and pushing myself to learn something new and completely out of my comfort zone. Performing is not really something that comes naturally to me and it’s quite nerve-racking! Cali is brilliant at calming me down though, and my colleagues at Purple HR are a huge support.
– How good would you say you are at remembering routines/steps?
This was something I was really panicking about prior to rehearsals, but so far, so good… There is a lot of perfecting to do but I feel comfortable so far with what I have learned. I absolutely love dancing so rehearsals are great fun and I leave on a massive high!
– How much do you know about Parkinson’s? Has this ever affected anyone in your family?
I am lucky that nobody in my immediate family has been affected by Parkinson’s but I am aware of how life changing this disease can be. A good friend of mine has a close relative who is affected and at times, it can be difficult for everyone in the family to stay positive in the company something that has a huge impact on the sufferer’s physical capabilities and self-confidence. I am really proud to be dancing in support of two fantastic charities that help those who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and their families.
– What is your favourite track to dance to at weddings?
(laughs) There are a few tracks I love dancing to, but my ultimate, all-time favourite song to dance to at weddings would have to be ‘Steve Winwood – Higher Love’. I request this song at every wedding I am fortunate enough to attend. At first listen, it may seem quite cheesy… But the percussion is amazing, the vocals are great and towards the end the backing singers have a gospel-like quality that (I think) really sets this song apart from others.
