We support artists and companies who share our aspirations for creating work that connects with people. Part of this support includes offering studio space to professional dance companies, here at Pavilion Dance South West, to develop new work. Whilst here artists also benefit from the support of our team, including time with our technical staff and producers.
We are going to start inviting our resident artists to guest blog right here, we think it’s really interesting to be able to peer through the studio doors and get an insight in the creative process. So here is the first of many interesting insights into our residency programme:
Neon Dance & AVA Dance Company will be holding an informal sharing of their progress on Friday 17th at 4pm at Pavilion Dance. If you’re interested in attending please contact: email@example.com
The sun has been shining for us on our first day at Pavilion Dance. Lovely welcome from the team. We are straight into Con-Ballet class and straight into rehearsal. The work involves lots of contact between myself and another female dancer Julie. Avatâra is looking for precision, we develop the movement through tasks.
A little sore today but after a good class we are ready to go. Avatâra’s introduced salsa into the tasks today. Very intricate and struggling a little with the complexity of coordination but by the end of the day its starting to feel more familiar. Avatâra teaches a workshop to 2BU Youth Dance Company this evening. They learnt a phrase from today and have worked really hard. Well done ladies. Day 3The Con–Ballet class, mixture of Contemporary and Ballet really did the trick today. We start off by going over our phrases from yesterday with some more changes. A tricky morning for the head.
