Le Club Social is a dance and performance work that playfully examines dance culture from the 1950’s onwards in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP).

Creator Genevieve Say is looking for two local based dance performers and facilitators to bring this to the stage in April 2023.

The piece leans upon the stories of BCP residents and their memories of going out, dancing and the vibrant nightlife associated with coastal towns in Dorset. Audio interviews already gathered for the project explore themes of connection, love and the physical experience of multiple dance cultures.

Community casts are at the heart of the work, coming together to bring to life their experiences of dancing in pubs, clubs and dance floors with an immersive performance at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth.

Each dance artist will work alongside Genevieve with a group of community members who bring their own stories and memories to the project, including co-creating choreographic material with the participants and guiding them through sections of set choreography. You will also perform in the piece alongside the participants.

Deadline for applications is 5th December 2022.

Le Club Social is commissioned by Pavilion Dance and supported by Arts Council England.
