nocturn dance are the ‘dance macabre’ of the digital world. We seek out unconventional opportunities for contemporary dance, experimenting with interactive work, blending performance art with social media.
The company is about to start a period of research and development into our future touring production ‘…And They Have Escaped’. In July 2016, at our final sharing, we will invite the general public to meander around Newbury’s historical West Berkshire Museum in a playful, immersive experience that fuses dance, technology and projection with our fascination for living lives through mobile phones.
Female dancer (playing aged 30-40) – You will play a character called ‘Ms White’, a respectable and mundane member of her village community who has a secret, and who’s tale will initially be delivered online via Facebook. You will then work to develop this role for virtual and live performances at South Hill Park, Bracknell and West Berkshire Museum, Newbury.
Male dancer (playing age 25 upwards) – Initially you will be working with our Artistic Director and a commissioned choreographer to create a duet dance film. You will then develop a character that will complement the story arch of ‘Ms White’, for virtual and live performances at South Hill Park, Bracknell and West Berkshire Museum, Newbury.
‘… And They Have Escaped’ has been commissioned by West Berkshire Council, supported using public funding by Arts Council England and Corn Exchange, Newbury.
AUDITION DETAILS: Audition is by invitation only and will be held in London. Date: Saturday 21 November (possible recalls in December) Time: 12:15 – 5:00pm
REQUIREMENTS: We are looking for experienced dancers with a versatile skills base and who are comfortable with social media and being filmed, as the majority of our work will be performed virtually. 3 years vocational training or equivalent experience. A high standard of contemporary technique with strong acting and partnering skills. Highly creative with excellent improvisation skills, willing to respond to a range of creative tasks. Able to push themselves physically and theatrically A genuine interest for our exploration of finding new grounds for dance on social media. Prior knowledge of the company’s work is essential. Willingness to collaborate with a choreographer. A good team player with a strong work ethic.
This job is subject to a DBS enhanced disclosure check. Must be able to work legally in the UK and possess any necessary visas or work permits. All full company positions are paid at Equity minimum rates.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL rehearsals/performances will be in Newbury, Didcot or Bracknell, so you must ensure you are able to get to rehearsals via your own means. Travel expenses to the rehearsal venue will not be paid.
