Strike A Light, in Partnership with the Hawkwood Artist Residency Programme based in the Cotswolds, are offering two mid-week residencies to collaborative and devised theatre ensembles to support artistic development.
What we can offer artists:
We will award two ensembles from the UK a five day residency with £300 seed funding per ensemble, studio space, plus all board and lodging at Hawkwood, Stroud. Artists will have the option to scratch their work during their residency, receive producer support, and potentially to work with our national partners to showcase their work.
Some things to think about:
We are interested in performance that is contemporary, exciting, and has the potential to develop into a finished piece. This process is to develop new work and must not have had significant public exposure prior to this opportunity. The funded residency will be supporting artists who would not otherwise be able to pay for it themselves (value of £500 per person per week board and lodging and studio space). The residency aims to give artists the opportunity to have time and space away from their usual environment and obligations and provide a space for reflection, research, collaboration, presentation and/or production.
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from artists from diverse backgrounds.
If you have a piece in development or a new idea you would like to share, please get in touch.
Send us a CV plus one side of A4 outlining:
– What you want to explore during the residency
– Who you will work with
– What your professional aspirations are and how being part of this opportunity will help you achieve them.
Send it to email@example.com with subject heading: Hawkwood/Strike A Light Devised Theatre Residency.
Applications should be submitted by 28th April 2017. Successful applicants will be notified by 5th May 2017. Please note that submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
The actual dates of the residency will be agreed upon in discussion with the artists. If you have any further questions, please check the FAQ’s below. If you can’t find the answer there, email your question to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Q: Can I send supporting material alongside my proposal?
A: You do not need to send us anything other than your CV and proposal.
Q: Do I have to apply with a written proposal or can I use an alternative format?
A: In order to keep the selection as fair as possible, we would like all applicants to submit a written proposal. If you have accessibility needs which make this difficult, please get in touch with us so we can agree a suitable alternative.
Q: What can I spend the seed funding on?
A: Artists fees, producer support, materials for example.
Q: Can you cover travel?
A: Unfortunately we can’t cover travel to Hawkwood but all studio space, board and lodging is covered
Q: I am part of a company who want to apply; should it be my personal CV or the company’s CV?
A: Please send us the CV which is most relevant to your application. We will not have time to read through multiple CV’s attached to an application.
