Last month saw us welcome a host of Youth Talent from across the region with our annual Origins youth dance platform and Sadler’s Wells Making Moves taking place in our Ocean Theatre. From professional workshops, talks with trustees and of course the final performance, here’s how our Origins weekend went down…

We hosted 235 participants as we welcomed back some familiar faces from groups who have attended previously as well as embracing new groups into our venue for some amazing performance experience. From tap dance all the way through to musical theatre, and from ‘Peaky Blinders’ to ‘Cinderella’, we witnessed a bit of everything from these talented young dance groups .

Throughout the weekend, we were delighted to offer the opportunity for the young performers to take part in specialised dance workshops with one of our visiting artists- Sean Moss . Sean’s expertise lies in contemporary dance, and his workshop provided some important insights into some movement and work that reflects his discipline.

We also welcomed into our building Hannah Malone (one of our young trustees and former AUB dance student). Hannah has been part of Pavilion Dance for many years, as both a student and a member of Co-Evo- our adult contemporary dance company. She was a fan favourite with the young people after her talks on her story into dance while utilising her ADHD were greatly appreciated, as shown by the overwhelmingly positive feedback on the sheets we had up in our exhibition corridor.

The final performances on both days were great successes, with the young groups performing to over 330 people in our Ocean theatre over the course of the weekend. We enjoyed performances from the following groups:

Coast Youth Dance Company, Poole High School, LeAF, Dorset Foundation College, Ballard School, Weymouth College, Tapistory, Hampshire Youth Dance Company, Orb, Somerset Youth Dance Company, DFA, Brockenhurst Crew, Dorset Youth Dance

And topped it all off with a spectacular show from The Remix dance company, who brought Cinderella and her glittery pink Doc Marten to Origins this year!

So once again a huge thank you to all those who participated, and we can’t wait for next year
