Pavilion Dance South West are excited to announce two new works in progress  – both work for Children and their Grown-Ups.

In response to an open call in Jan 2021, we’re pleased to announce two South West Artists, Cscape (based in Cornwall) and Claire Benson (based in Bournemouth) as the recipients of a 5k commission.

Both works lead up to the Children and their Grown-Ups showcase will be part hosted by PDSW in September 2021.

Cscape: Digital R&D

Cscape (based in Falmouth) will work over the next few months to R&D a digital idea that responds to PDSW’s brief which puts the focus on excellent and creative accessibility and evocation of the senses.

Cscape’s Artistic Director Sally Knight says:

“We are really excited about this R&D for the project LOST and the opportunity to develop ideas for creating work for young children in a digital format.  It is fantastic to be working with PDSW on this project, and the specialist support and encouragement we are receiving is so helpful in shaping the project.

Claire Benson: Plastic Paradiso

Plastic Paradiso is an immersive and interactive dance theatre show for children and their grown ups that  examines climate change, plastic pollution and their impact on the planet.

This heartfelt and engaging  narrative will explore the use of puppetry, projection and film to inspire and ignite a sense of call to action for  our young people (specifically aimed at Key Stage 1 children and their families). Collaborator Holly Miller – a  South West based set designer and puppet maker for Stuff and Nonsense, will create a simple set that  incorporates recycled plastic waste found on local beaches and our homes.

This eco conscious and planet  friendly production will also reimagine plastic as simple props that will be bought to life through puppetry and  dance.
