VE Day is a celebration of liberation and a time of reflection of world history. As a registered charity we are supported by the Arts Council England, an organisation who ultimately was born out of a period of adversity.

In a time of war it was deemed necessary to support and preserve British culture. The Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA) was established In 1940 with the aim of facilitating this.

The Council was government-funded and after the war was renamed the Arts Council of Great Britain.

The Council was divided in 1994 to form the Arts Council of England, the Scottish Arts Council, and the Arts Council of Wales.

Today, the Arts Council supports thousands of artists, community and cultural organisations to develop creativity and culture for everyone to enjoy.
