Visiting Artists at Pavilion Dance – Open Call 2024 (January)

Call open: 19 January 2024

Application deadline: 4 March 2024

A space to breathe and explore by the sea…

Dance artists in need of creative space are invited to work in our beach-side studios as Visiting Artists of Pavilion Dance. You can test out new ideas or continue working on a project with support from a friendly and experienced team. We are particularly interested in artists who have not worked with us before and are interested in sharing their practice with others. Our venue is fully accessible and there is a bursary of £750.

There will be two open call outs this year for Visiting Artists:

January Open Call – for residencies taking place in July 2024

June Open Call – for residencies taking place in January 2025

Two bursaries are available per call out – one to an artist based in the south-west, and one to an artist based anywhere in the UK.

  What is involved?

Residencies of 5 full days in one of our beautiful studios which may be used to test out your material or explore your ideas in more depth with the added benefit of access to advice and support from our in-house dance professionals should you wish. This may include: advice and help with funding applications; career guidance; objective observation and feedback. Being at Pavilion Dance means you have the opportunity for informal chats with the team or even creative meetings on the beach! There is no expected outcome from your residency.

We’re interested in artists finding a meeting point between their practice and our communities. This could take the form of open classes, workshops, talks or sharings, all of which we would be happy to discuss and help you with. In return, the Pavilion Dance team is keen to learn from our Visiting Artists about how best to support their practice. We are also keen for Visiting Artists to  learn from each other so we will devise the best way to do this together.

“Such a great programme, I’ll be recommending it to everyone!” – Sean Moss, Summer 2023

     Pavilion Dance Programming

Pavilion Dance empowers and champions diverse artistic voices. Rather than curating to specific themes, our programme celebrates the unique perspectives and experiences that artists bring to our dancing community. We collaborate deeply with artists, amplifying their voices and connecting them with the people. We are therefore interested in working with artists who:

Activate and reimagine spaces in creative ways

Engage and connect with people in our community

Pavilion Dance is interested in collaborative working with artists in an authentic and meaningful way. Becoming a Visiting Artist is intended to start your conversation with us which may continue over years to come.

  Criteria

Applicants for this year will be sorted by the following priorities:

Applicants (from anywhere in the UK) who have two years professional experience, including the public presentation of at least one choreographic work

Applicants (from anywhere in the UK) who haven’t worked with us before

We welcome applicants from all over the UK, but please think practically in terms of travel and accommodation costs as well as paying yourself adequately from the bursary.
