Open Studio Sharing for ‘Six Degrees from Home’ with Divija Melally

Wednesday 24 July, 1:30 – 3:30pm

Free, drop-in event

Visiting Artist Divija Melally and her spoken-word collaborator Saili Katebe would like to invite you to an informal sharing of work in the studio. They are researching and performing a duet ‘Six Degrees from Home’ that explores the ideas of borders and connection. The work is about looking past the differences that we have created in society, and embracing what we have in common: that we are all human. They are exploring workshop and facilitation ideas that involves both movement and text for dancer and non-dancer communities. They would value your feedback as they develop community engagement around their performance project.

This session is aimed at all ages interested in how a dance work gets made and what choreographers get up to in the studio. You do not have to dance trained to attend. Drop-in to observe or try out some creative tasks. Stay for as long or as little time as you like.

Young People’s Workshop with Divija Melally & Saili Katebe

Thursday 25 July, 10:30 – 11:30pm

Divija Melally and Saili Katebe invite young people aged 11+ to a movement and text workshop. The workshop will introduce fun ways to use dance and words to explore the idea of ‘Home’. They are curious to explore what home means to each of us through games, writing and dance. The workshop will help them get new ideas and perspectives from people younger than them which they can include in their work.

Aimed at ages 11yrs+. Some dance training would be useful, but it’s not essential.

Free to attend, but booking essential. Please email programming@pdsw.org.uk to reserve your place.
