Word Wizards: a magical writing workshop for children

Performance information
28th April 2024
Running time: 90 minutes

How to cast spells with words, telling and crafting beautiful stories

Jane Labous – author and award-winning journalist

Join author, journalist and mum, Jane Labous, on the beach for a magical writing workshop exploring how to cast spells with words, and how to tell and craft beautiful stories.

We’ll discuss our favourite books and fictional characters, before brainstorming wow words and ideas relating to an enchanted shell, a wish seahorse, a spellbinding starfish – and possibly a few other magical creatures and beach objects to inspire our stories! Afterwards, we’ll spend some time writing down our ideas and crafting them into stories. Finally, if you wish, you can share your story with the group.

For 7 to 9 year-olds (Key Stage 2). Maximum ten children. Magical costumes welcome.

Notes for this outdoor session –

This session starts outside the Pavilion Dance, and will walk by the beach to the Russell Cotes Museum (less than 10 minute walk), where the main activity will take place.

Participants will need to be comfortable walking on uneven ground or sand, and be prepared to possibly get a little cold and damp. Also be mindful to bring appropriate clothing/footwear and – if appropriate – medication/a snack/drink.

All children MUST be accompanied by an adult. Adults do not require the purchase of a ticket themselves.
