Over the past 6 months we've had an extra member in the Theatre Tech team with Trainee Theatre Technician, Matt, who recently completed his Breakthrough Traineeship at Pavilion Dance South West.

More about the Artswork Breakthrough Traineeship

Artswork's Breakthrough programme is a paid 6-month traineeship designed for 18–25 year olds to gain experience, skills, and confidence in the creative, arts, and heritage industries. It bridges the gap between talent and employment in the South-East of England, offering hands-on roles, such as assistants for production, marketing, or technical skills.

During this time here, Matt became a valuable part of the Tech Team, helping bring to life many incredible performances and events throughout the Winter/Spring season in theatre - learning new skills in sound, lighting and working with artists.

Some of his personal highlights included The Monocle by Rendez-vouz Dance, our lively Ceilidh social dances, and our new school partnership, the Primary Dance Festival.

Matt quickly became a much-loved member of the team, gaining confidence, experience, and improving his communication skills along the way. Reflecting on his time with us, Matt shared:

The Pavilion Dance team are lovely and non-judgmental people to work with. It has been a pleasure to start my career in such a welcoming environment.

Matt now embarks on the next stage of his career with an AV equipment company and we’re thrilled that he has promised to visit us from time to time. We wish him every success and know he has a bright future ahead!
