Following the recent celebration of International Dance Day, an exciting programme of local and international dance theatre is set to take over Bournemouth’s vibrant seaside stage over the coming months.

Audiences can look forward to a dynamic lineup throughout May and June, showcasing a diverse mix of cultural storytelling, contemporary performance, and cutting-edge choreography.

Kicking things off on Friday 8t May is RONiN, a powerful and visually striking production by Japanese artist Yukiko Masui. This sold-out performance tells the story of the first fearless female samurai, blending bold movement with vivid visuals and intricate stick and sword artistry. The evening will also feature a special outdoor curtain raiser (weather permitting) by Co Evo, an adult contemporary dance company.

On Friday 15th May, the theatre hosts its third annual Kontemporary Korea programme, featuring Burnt Offering by 99ArtCompany. This award-winning work explores the concept of modern rituals, drawing inspiration from traditional Korean practices such as Seungmu folk dance. With its rich cultural roots and distinctive aesthetic, the performance offers a unique and immersive experience.

Moving into June, A Night of Hip Hop arrives on Friday 5th June, celebrating the next generation of talent in urban dance theatre. Led by Artistic Director Joseph Toonga, Just Us Dance Theatre presents the UK’s first paid Hip Hop Dance Apprenticeship Programme performance. The evening will include newly commissioned works by Dutch choreographer Chandenie Gobardhan, alongside an exciting collaboration between Kenrick 'H2O' Sandy and Joseph Toonga.

Looking ahead to July, audiences can anticipate the return of TS Crew with their brand-new show No Sugar No Milk!. Following the success of their previous hit No Dragon No Lion, the group promises another high-energy spectacle combining parkour, acrobatics, beatboxing, and kung fu.

With such a rich and varied programme, Bournemouth’s dance scene is set to thrive this season—offering something for everyone, from powerful storytelling to innovative contemporary performance.
