Two fabulous workshops day took place this week with Richard Chappell, company dancer Ena Yamaguchi and live chamber violinist Enyuan Khong. 35 students from across 3 schools; Bourne Academy, Milton Abbey School and Glenmoor & Winton Academies, learned movement from the company’s latest show ‘Hot House’ and experience some of Richard’s creation processes.

The exercises he took students through combined musicality exploration with live violinist Enyuan, who is a lead performer in the ‘Hot House’ production, and then together she and Ena performed a intense and beautiful 7.5min excerpt of the production. The workshop concluded with an insightful Q and A session where the students learned more about their work, motivations, and careers.

When asked how students found dancing and creating to a live violinist they responded with words such as ‘emotional’ and ‘heartfelt’ and it was an inspiring and unique experience for all involved. The groups were equally wowed by the intensity with which Ena performed and are looking forward to seeing the full show at Lighthouse this coming week.
