News Story

Following the success of our Advent Adventure project, earlier this year we held an open call to commission a South-West based artist to create a performance for children aged 7 – 11yrs. This work is designed to tour schools in late Autumn 2025.

BCP artists Jazz Gritt and Katie Neal awarded commission

We are delighted to announce that this commission has been awarded to BCP-based artists Jazz Gritt and Katie Neal, both of whom have extensive experience of working with children and young people.  They will work together to bring a local Dorset story alive.

The Snails Dragon Tale – a Dorset myth

‘The Snails Dragon Tale’ is based on a Dorset myth – The Bloodstone of Maiden Castle – and will combine contemporary and street dance styles with a whole heap of imagination thrown in. There will be storytelling, craft and learning movement from the show as well as the shared experience of watching a live performance. The work will go into rehearsal from July and we look forward to bringing it to local schools this winter.

Jazz and Katie said;

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been granted the children’s schools commission. As artists born and raised in Bournemouth, this opportunity to bring the arts directly to children in our local schools, especially during the festive season when access might be limited, is incredibly important to us. Our new piece, ‘The Snails Dragon Tale’, will immerse young audiences (and their teachers) in a local myth, tracing the adventurous journey of Scarlet and Sandy.”
