Two Year Associate Programme

Through our Associate Artist scheme, we create close partnerships with some of the most creative talents in the sector, supporting and championing their work in a holistic way.

How the programme works

Associate Artists work with us over a two-year period. We co-develop a clear plan for that time in order to create a step-change in their career trajectory. You might be looking to work in a different scale, expand on the type of people you reach, or would like to work internationally. Through setting clear intentions together, we will support you to move towards your goals and beyond.

We offer bespoke support including cash investment, in-kind studio space, and creative and producing support on their artistic journeys. In turn, our Associate Artists inform and influence the ways in which we grow as an organisation. We want to walk alongside our Associate Artists as creative companions, working collaboratively in building a vibrant sector.

How do I become an Associate Artist?

Open call for Associate Artist goes live in spring each year, and we will select one UK-based artist each year to be associated with us for a potential two-year period. The Associate-ship is reviewed after one year and, if all is well, it continues for another 12 months.

We welcome applications from artists with established creative practices.

The open call is accessed via our website or social media. Application is via written form, voice note or video. Shortlisted artists are invited to a short, online interview to discuss their application with us.

‘I’m truly honoured and thrilled .... and very excited for what is to come. Thank you for choosing me to be part of this journey!’

Sivan Rubinstein, Pavilion Dance Associate Artist 2025 - 27

Being an Associate Artist at Pavilion Dance is not a tokenistic offer of support. It has been instrumental in our ability to take creative and logistical risks in how we work. [The] team encouraged us to be brave, recognising the value of failure and success to artistic growth both for us as a company and as a positive contribution to the sector more widely. This associate-ship has been a career highlight for Lîla and we are excited for the next associates to experience this pivotal support.

Lila Dance, Pavilion Dance Associate Artist 2023 – 25

I am so excited to [be on] this journey with Pavilion and Swindon Dance, two organisations that have always championed Dance across the South West region. Both these organisations have already been so influential in my development as a dancer and choreographer and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together on this joint associate programme.
